Living in Tsefat has been a unique experience, especially in the past few weeks. The situation here has been challenging, with sirens sounding every couple of days, distant rumblings from battles in Lebanon, and interception explosions, mostly to the south and west. But despite the ongoing trials, life in Tsefat continues. Children still play in the streets, laughter can still be heard, and prayers still echo through our synagogues. There are no shortages of food or other essentials. We refuse to let fear dictate our lives, choosing instead to embrace each day with hope and determination.
Notwithstanding the unsettling circumstances, most of us have chosen to stay. This decision is rooted in our deep faith and belief that this land, given to us by the God of Israel, is where we are meant to be.
The frequency of the sirens has increased, but little else has changed. Those who could not bear the situation have left, but for the rest of us, leaving is not an option. We see this as a test of our emuna (faith) and bitachon (trust). It's a testament to our unwavering belief that we are not being exiled again, but rather being tested. This understanding, while difficult for many to comprehend, is deeply ingrained in our community.
Respected rabbis in our community have reassured us that Tsefat is the safest place on the entire planet. Some have even gone as far as to say that we do not need to run to shelters during attacks. To outsiders, this may seem extreme or even irresponsible, but for many of us, it is a reflection of the faith and trust that defines our lives here in Tsefat.
For those living in a secular society, it is understandable that our perspective may seem unconventional. However, in the face of what we perceive as constant miracles, our approach is not only sensible but necessary for our survival. Our faith has sustained us through trials and tribulations, and it continues to be our guiding light.
As we approach the holiday of Sukkot, we hold onto hope and extend our warmest wishes to our friends. We hope to see you again soon, and we pray for peace and safety for all. Despite the challenges, our spirits remain unbroken, and our faith unwavering. We draw strength from our community, our traditions, and our unwavering belief in the protection and guidance of the Almighty.
The situation in Tsefat may seem daunting to an outsider, but for us it is a testament to our unyielding faith. We continue to live our lives with determination, hope, and a deep sense of purpose. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, and we hope for brighter days ahead for all of us.
