Welcome to the Artists' Colony Inn

Nestled in the heart of Safed's historic Artists' Quarter, the Artists' Colony Inn offers more than just a place to stay—it provides a sanctuary where art, spirituality, and hospitality converge. Originally founded by Jeff and Benay Katz, the inn was later taken over by Susan Zehavi, and is now lovingly run by Shlomo and Leah Lengler. The building, over 300 years old, retains its historic charm while offering modern comforts for those looking to relax and recharge in this vibrant city.

The Vision Behind the Inn

Jeff and Benay Katz envisioned a place where the beauty of Safed’s artistic culture would meet the comfort of intimate hospitality. With only a few guest rooms surrounding a shared sitting area, guests could enjoy solitude or engage with fellow travelers. This setup fostered a warm, communal atmosphere where stories were shared and lasting connections were made.

Now, under the care of Shlomo and Leah, the vision remains the same—offering an authentic experience in the heart of Safed, where creativity and hospitality go hand in hand.

Our Guests Are at the Heart of the Experience

The true essence of the Artists' Colony Inn lies in the experiences of its guests. Visitors describe their stays as “a hidden gem” and “a home away from home,” highlighting the personal touch and warmth provided by Shlomo and Leah.

"We were welcomed in with so much history, beauty, and art… Shlomo and Leah guarantee comfort and bliss," shared one guest.

The Challenges and Rewards of Running a Historic Inn

Maintaining the authenticity of a historic building while ensuring modern comforts requires dedication and care. But the rewards are immeasurable. Sharing Safed's rich history and artistic spirit with guests from around the world makes every effort worthwhile.

For Shlomo and Leah, it’s not just about managing a business—it’s about creating a space where guests feel like family.

Looking Ahead: Join Us in the Journey

The Artists' Colony Inn remains committed to its mission of providing a peaceful retreat that celebrates art, culture, and community. Plans are underway to enhance the guest experience with additional amenities and programs that further immerse visitors in the artistic life of Safed.

Shlomo and Leah are excited to continue building on the legacy of Jeff and Benay Katz and Susan Zehavi while adding their own personal touch to the inn’s future.
